Cottonwood Revival; Granite, fieldstone, bronze, and cottonwood saplings.

Pueblo Nature Center, Pueblo, CO, 1995-96

This project is placed in a remnant cottonwood riparian forest.  I have redesigned the

stormwater drainage system for the 380 acre watershed so that instead of periodically

flooding out the visitor center and its gardens, the runoff will be spread over a derelict

hayfield that was once part of the riparian forest. Mimicking the natural floods that no

longer occur on the part of the river (a dam is just upstream), these infrequent flooding

will bring back the cottonwood trees that cannot seed without flooding.
